World of Antiques

Weebly is a website development tool I discovered a few days ago.  I have been using World of Antiques as a test site while I learn to use it.  So far this is going very well.  This morning I figured out how to change the default text color so it has more contrast and is easier to read.  I only had to make one change which is nice.  If you start messing around with to many settings it is easy to make upgrades break your site .

Now that I don't have to manually set the text color for each new entry I will go to work on the PayPal integration.  It looks like my regular PayPal business account will be enough.  Some of the shopping cart software I have looked at requires the upgraded (expensive) Pro account.  I will have to set up the Thank You and Return pages.  I need to see how the system handles the addition of shipping charges.

I want to be sure I understand all the nuances of how this system works before I start building more of them.  It's always painful when you think you know how things work, set up a lot of sites that way, and then have to go back and fix things by hand.

    About Us

We are in the process of downsizing.  We need to move most of our antiques and collectibles to someplace where they can be appreciated by new owners.

The obvious solution is to sell things on Ebay.  That get's them out of the house, converts their value to cash, and people who will pay real money for them presumably appreciate them.

The problem is we don't find Ebay selling to be much fun.  It's a lot of work, it has a lot of rules, and the fees are painful.

We plan to place some of our collectibles for sale directly to buys on this and other websites we are building.  This will let us keep prices down and work directly with buyers.  Time will tell if we can drive enough traffic to the sites to make it work.
